http://www.ktru.org/

So it seems the most hit and miss although probably the best true radio station in Houston KTRU has been offered to UH and their gonna turn it into a classical station. GAY!!! Call the fuckers they tell you to! This is the only station that actually plays real local metal, blues, indie, 60's, 70's, reggae, hip hop, and everything else. Not bullshit homo crap on clear channel. Although, the noise shows are only enjoyed while you are drugged like a lab rat and the good to weird/annoying song ratio is pretty even you can still hear whatever music you like to listen to as long as you find out when the show comes on. Imagine that. A radio that already plays classical and everything else and it cant get support. Just because its format seems inconvienient. I remember getting paid on Wednesday's bustin' my ass at the plants in Texas City and the sweet reggae coming from the radio in the truck meant a cold tallboy and some paper in my wallet. SAVE KTRU!

"cool trees in galveston"

I went to pick my wife up from work in Galveston a couple days ago. I took Sealy, a back street off the seawall to look at old houses and to explore shopping and dining spots. There was a tree sculpted with wild native birds that was extremely well done and lacquered up. Really cool to me and even cooler to stumble upon! I did some research and seems this has been done to a lot of trees that were killed by seawater during hurricane Ike. Here's the link to check out some more of this and other ongoing projects to preserve some of Galveston's oldest trees.

Here's a link about a whaling ship being restored by Galveston timbers.

some things

In the beginning there was supply and demand. And then there were unions to protect workers from killing themselves, then people got lazy, then they went to work at Wright and McGill.
I don't want to bash immediately for no reason, I love my reel. I had some slow dealings with them in the past but I didn't need the piece of equipment in question so I wasn't concerned. And they eventually got it right. I knew the reel I have is discontinued. That's why I was so surprised when the owner of Marburgers sporting goods in Kemah Texas called them and said they had a spare spool when I called them over a year ago asking the same question and they didn't have any spare spools. Well they sent the part to the wrong address and it took weeks to get to Marburgers. Typical. I purchased the spool($85)I don't know what was decided in private but I thought that It was only going to be sixty five but whatever I go there in an emergency and its either that or a new reel and 2 new spools) and put it on the reel. Didn't seem to spin freely like my old spool. I opened up the guts and theres RUST on the bearings. Not new, but a used part. Which makes sense because I had already done the research and this spool was probably a return. Needless to say I was disappointed with all parties. I will NOT be purchasing anything from W&M ever again. There is a unique needle bearing in the reel that they don't have a replacement for and it has a tendency to rust horribly. The "sealed" drag is loosening and coming apart and it seems I got tricked by this product. Seems I should have bought a Ross reel instead. I still have my cimmaron reel (4yrs) and I have had no problems with rust or maintenance. I'm done ranting. I will have a bad taste in my mouth everytime I use my reel now though.

This was a really awesome show. The hives ruled the crowd. Rival schools snapped your neck, and inc made you horny. Also, Rival Schools last I checked is recording a new album. As well as Far. And Faith now more is touring. This is year old news but I am still happy that some of my favorite bands are still doin' it. Looking forward to being at one or more of these shows.

I am enjoying this book. I enjoy Ashley Wood's art style.

Good chorizo...mmmmmmmmmmmm....chooooorrrrrriiizzzzoooooo.

If you like nuts, and honestly...don't we all..I suggest trying these. See how many you can shove in your mouth at one time. It will thank you for it.

Busy busy. This little guy was on a tree off my apt balcony. The tree is literally even with the to top rail and I have a close up view on the daytime bee and dirt dobber wasp hunting ground. And at night there are several spiders that build their webs around 9 or 10 pm to catch the insects that are attracted to a light at the corner of the building. Kind of a cool thing to be able to observe.

Work that gut baby

This is San Luis pass in the wee hours. Half of my fishing during the summer is spent staring at these lights. Listening to fish sounds. Jumping mullet, trout sucking bait, huge sharks plowing through bait....maybe thats just my imagination there. But There are some pretty big splashes out there in the black, so I stay no deeper than my shins until morning. Because I'm a wuss.

A horse mackerel seems like a pest when you catch one on a topwater plug. But a 5+ pounder on a flyrod will make you rethink why you ever had a bad thing to say about the "poor mans tarpon".

Some will say blind casting with a fly rod is too boring. I say, how else are you going to become a better caster? And besides. I blind cast with my gear all day and I havent heard anyone call that boring that likes fishing or is any good at it.

Anyone else notice that these fish are becoming waaaaaay too aggressive?

What a good day! Top fly was a pink/red ep streamer with pink and red flash.

The morning started at a snails pace. The tide didnt really start moving untill closer to 9am. I concentrated my casts along a shallow gut that is becoming increasingly more silted in. The hydraulics of the bay have shifted major water flows around the area we have been fishing for about 5 years. I think last years back bowl on a screaming mid morning incoming was the most rewarding for me. The fact that there was a lazy tide and less than aggressive fish seemed to work in the favor of fly casting. I have caught 20+ inch trout on flys an inch long. But the bleeding pink bait fish cast so good I couldnt take it off and so by sticking to my guns I eked out one last fish before I called it. I love 10-15 at my back. Easy casting and hard takes leaves me satisfied and thankful. Thanks for taking me fishing Dad.

Finally a break in the WORK!

I am still not ready to be working this week and its almost Wednesday. Luckily a long stretch of moving into an apartment, family visits, graduations and parties, and other weather and tide deterrents lends itself to just saying bollocks and getting out of town for a weekend. Both days were epic and beautifully necessary.

Day one was a revisiting of my childhood with a float down a deep stretch away from the touristing tube drunks and vomit crusted cypress roots in the heart of town. I realized that through promotion of alcohol on the river since the trendy boom of idiots 15+ years ago the river isn't just a cash cow for the town of New Braunsfels but also a natural collection of hats, rubber, accessories, and beer cans.

Luckily the fish don't mind the daytime salinity levels.

Day two was a brand new experience. I haven't fished for trout since Wyoming and never in a river. Luckily I was with my cousin so even if the day was a failure I would have been with family I don't get to hang out with much. The first half was working out kinks and learning, Nick caught his first few fish on a fly rod. He had an awesome teke on a medium sized bass after making a great cast to the edge of a fallen tree in shin deep water throwing a hopper. And several perch to keep us busy.

After half the trip was over we came into our own. I chatted with a pro and he gave me some split shot to high stick some rapids with. After 30 minutes and a couple lost fish we moved down and I almost gave up for trout and switched to a streamer. Luckily the trout really wanted to eat streamers! I cant understand why, if they will attack a streamer, you would fish anything else after seeing how aggressive and awesome it can be. Unless its a big dry fly, nymph fishing is for desperate men or desperate situations.

When doing research I noticed all the pics of fish on this river from guide sites seemed to have clipped fins. I didn't land any with clipped fins but maybe the ones I caught were hold overs and grew their fins back assuming they are clipped by the farm before stocking.

My sinking line worked awesome.

I landed 3 trout over 20 inches. Even though they are stocked they are still game. Expert at blending into the river bottom. This one jumped what looked like three feet out of the water while fighting. We both just said, WHOOOOAH!

I seriously needed an escape from the grind and this was pretty sweet timing. I cant remember how many bass I caught but there were at least three good ones about 15 inches. No stripers this time but super awesome. I think we landed about 5 trout total and lost a couple too. And if we would have been doing what we were doing at the end in the beginning we wouldn't have waster all the photos on perch and scenery! Thanks to all the fishing podcasts that I remembered listening to. Mostly ask about fly fishing. This saves me during the week and keeps my mind out of reality. Oh and FYI. The Vibram five finger shoes worked great. If I did this all the time I would purchase the flow's. With a neoprene covered upper to keep out dirt and gravel it would be perfect. Although my sprints worked fine.
